Traditional products of Mytilene – Souvenirs
Lesvos is famous for the traditional products of its land, but also of the sea that surrounds it. There are many items that can be bought from the island and relate to either gastronomic or aesthetic pleasures. Oil, aromatic soaps, spoon sweets, Agiasotikos halva, ouzo, oil cheese, salted, wood carvings, ceramics, textiles, traditional pasta, local jams, local wine, nuts, apples, cherries, herbs, herbs, honey which can be bought either in the city or in the villages of the island.
Ouzo
What else could better accompany the delicious fish and other delicacies of lesbian cuisine, than the well-known favorite ouzo, which has almost been identified with the island. The many distilleries but also the special variety of anise that is found only in our place, confirm in the best way the tradition of Lesvos in the production of ouzo.
Olive oil
Incomparable in taste and aroma and with the best nutritional properties, the olive oil of Lesvos is a true gift of nature. There are over 11,000,000 olive trees on the island. The olive oil of Lesvos is characterized by its thin texture, its light golden yellow color, its pleasant aroma and the delicate discreet taste. For its excellent quality, Lesvos oil has been awarded many times at International Exhibitions. In Kalloni, there is the first organic farm that was made in Greece, in 1990.
Cheeses
With a long tradition in cheese products, Lesvos is famous for oil cheese, feta cheese and cheese. After three months of preservation in olive oil of excellent quality, the oil cheese acquires its well-known spicy taste, which makes it a unique appetizer.
