Metropolitan Church of Athens

The Orthodox Cathedral of Athens, dedicated to the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary, is located in Metropoleos Square on the street of the same name. Its construction began in 1842 and was completed in 1862. The type of the church is a cruciform three-aisled basilica with a dome.

Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary

Kapnikarea or Church of Panagia Kapnikarea is a small, Byzantine church dating back to the 11th century, located in the centre of Athens, on Ermou Street, the most commercial street of the historic city centre.
The church is dedicated to the Presentation of the Virgin Mary and belongs to the University of Athens, so it is called the “Holy University Church”.

Holy Church of Saint Isidore

Saint Isidores or Agios Sideras is a medieval church in Attica. It is located on the southwestern slope of Lycabettus, stuck right on the cut rock and inside a large cave. It is a small church of single-aisled basilica style, with a wooden roof, 5.2 x 12.1 m. It was destroyed by fire in 1930 and rebuilt from the ground up a year later.

Church of Saint Irene

The Church of Agia Irini at 36, Aeolou Street, Athens, is a church which was built between 1847-1850 on a previous medieval church, which in the early 17th century was a part of the Penteli Monastery.
